1: Alive and Well

So, I have decided to record my journey this way - blogging. Instead of starting another blog (like the millions I already have), I figured I should just reuse this one.

Today is Day 4 of arrival in Snow Mountain Ranch. It is also Day 1 of work. Though we actually just worked for around four hours today.

The people here are generally very nice and friendly, always willing to engage in conversation. The problem is, I've got to be equally interested to strike up a conversation with them - which is something I'm still working on. I really have to drop this shell of mine and just go out and TALK. But it's not like I'm not trying to make interesting conversation. It just seems like my conversations always meet a dead-end. Am I THAT boring?

Also, I've really got to go out by myself more. Stop sticking by my roommate.

Polly gave us an orientation today. One of the slides was about ways to deal with homesickness. There was one method that stood out to me - share things or moments that you are enjoying here, rather than sharing things that you miss about home. In other words, live in the present (as Walter Benjamin would say, haha). SO, this is precisely what I will start to do - one photo a day on Facebook or Instagram. (Which is also quite a good way to update friends and family on how I'm doing.)

I have also decided that I have to sort out whatever-this-relationship-is-called with somebody. It will drive me crazy one day, and it will not be healthy.

By the way, the following months I'm in the US will be set as a time for self-improvement! I will do everything I can to broaden my knowledge and skills, and return home as a newer and better me. YES!
